Strong in Body, Confidence and Community

Strong After Birth is an 8-week postpartum movement, education, and connection series grounded in the Body Ready Method and Joanne's Conscious Birth approach that understands one core truth:

Knowledge builds confidence.

Confidence brings ease.

This class is rooted in the belief that the body is intelligent, adaptive, and responsive—and that postpartum and parenthood experience is deeply influenced by how we relate to ourselves, our environment, and our expectations.

Postpartum is not about “getting back.” It is a re-creation into a new life with baby.

 The Conscious Birth Approach
Postpartum is not about bouncing back. It’s not about fixing your body.
It’s about listening to it. Respecting it.
Working with it instead of against it. Birth is more than a physical event—it is a profound transition across the physical, emotional, mental, and energetic layers of being.

Postpartum is not simply recovery from birth—it is a transformation into parenthood. Strong After Birth supports mothers through that transition with education for informed decision-making, space for self-compassion, and practical tools, including
evidence-based movement grounded in postpartum biomechanics, nervous system regulation, and maternal mental health

What you'll explore in this class:
1. Rebuilding the Physical Foundation (BRM) Using the Body Ready Method five pillars, movement is chosen to support real-life function:
  •  Biomechanical advantage and stacked alignment
  • Core, pelvis, and pelvic floor integration
  • Upper body support for feeding, carrying, and daily load
  • Restoring efficient movement patterns rather than isolated “exercises”
Strength is rebuilt through coordination and awareness, not intensity or pressure.

 2. Education That Builds Confidence (Not Fear) This series recognises that understanding your body changes how you move, rest, and care for yourself.
Education may includes:
  • Navigating maternal & infant sleep
  •  Postpartum nutrition (for both mother and baby)
  • Infant feeding, soothing & milestones
  • Postpartum mental health
  • Informed decision-making of topics important to you.
This knowledge helps mothers trust themselves rather than outsourcing authority. As well as know what professional resources are accessible when needed.

3. Emotional & Nervous System Support
While BRM supports how your body moves, BodyTalk supports how you feel inside your body—emotionally, mentally, and energetically. BodyTalk in this space supports:
  •  Feeling connected to your body again after birth
  • Making sense of emotional shifts—grief, rage, joy, numbness, tenderness
  • Gently releasing stress, overwhelm, or beliefs picked up during pregnancy, birth, or earlier life Supporting nervous system regulation so rest, recovery, and presence are possible
  • Tuning into what your body is communicating when something feels “off”
BodyTalk acts like a translator between your body and your inner world, helping things come back into coherence—not just physically, but emotionally and energetically.

4. Stress Reduction, Regulation & Intuition
This is a space that actively supports:
  • Nervous system regulation
  • Stress reduction
  • Emotional attunement
  • Reconnection to intuition
Because healing, strength, and confidence emerge most naturally from safety—not pressure.

 5. Community, Connection & Being Seen Strong After Birth recognises that postpartum healing does not happen in isolation. This is a space to:

  • Ask questions without feeling behind
  • Build confidence through shared understanding Be supported not just as a caregiver, but as a whole human in transformation
  • Feel less alone during this vulnerable and powerful life transition

You are not meant to navigate this phase alone. Postpartum is messy and raw, and this space will hold you lovingly through it.

What a Class Looks Like
Each class is intentionally structured to support both mothers and babies:
 15 min – Introduction & grounding
 20 min – Movement
 20 min – Education & discussion
 20 min – More movement
15 min – Closing conversation circle

The education portion is designed as a low-pressure time for feeding, changing, soothing, or simply holding your baby. There is no expectation for babies to be out of arms or settled for long periods. This structure allows space for movement, learning, and connection—without asking mothers to choose between caring for their baby and caring for themselves.
Meet Your Teacher
Joanne Yanke began teaching yoga in 2006 and completed her pre- and postnatal yoga certification in 2010. She is a BodyTalk Practitioner, birthkeeper, and infant sleep educator (neuroscience-based), with a background in Kinesiology (Exercise Science) and advanced training in the Body Ready Method. Joanne supports women in the postpartum period using an evidence-informed, whole-system approach that recognises postpartum as a time of reorganisation—not just physical recovery. Her work integrates biomechanics, nervous system regulation, maternal mental health, and practical education to support the transition into parenthood with confidence and clarity. Her approach weaves together BodyTalk, which supports emotional, neurological, and physiological integration after birth, and the Body Ready Method, where she applies functional alignment, breath, pelvic and core coordination, and movement patterns to help the postpartum body adapt to new demands. Rather than prescribing exercises or chasing performance, Joanne guides movement as a process of listening, regulation, and rebuilding trust in the body. Joanne views postpartum as a relational experience between body, nervous system, identity, and environment. Her classes focus on restoring strength, stability, and coherence in a way that supports real life with a baby—feeding, carrying, soothing, resting, and responding—while creating space for emotional processing, self-compassion, and informed decision-making. Her work helps mothers feel grounded in their bodies, confident in their choices, and supported as whole humans navigating one of life’s most significant transitions.
Frequently Asked Questions
You might still be wondering if this space is right for you.
Here is a bit more on what to expect.
  • How is this different from postpartum yoga or traditional fitness classes?
Strong After Birth is not a workout class and it’s not traditional postpartum yoga.
It is a movement, education, and support class grounded in the Body Ready Method® and an evidence-informed understanding of postpartum adaptation.

    This class combines:

Functional, whole-body movement grounded in postpartum biomechanics (Body Ready Method®)

Education to help you understand what your body is experiencing after pregnancy and birth, and how to make informed decisions as you recover and adapt

Breath, awareness, and nervous system regulation as practical tools for daily life with a baby—not just for exercise

Emotional and mental health support, recognising postpartum as a time of identity shift, not just physical change

Rather than focusing on isolated exercises or “getting your body back,” the goal is to help your body feel stable, capable, and trustworthy as you return to movement, caregiving, and everyday demands like feeding, carrying, lifting, and resting.

This class supports mothers who are postpartum after vaginal birth or cesarean birth, and honours that healing timelines are not linear. Movement is adaptable, responsive, and guided by how your body is functioning—not by a fixed timeline or performance goal.
Each class has an education component as well to support your growth and confidence in navigating parenthood.
No prior yoga or movement experience is required.
  • What if I had a cesarean birth?
You are in the right place.
Strong After Birth offers adaptable, evidence-informed movement and education that supports the body as it reorganises after pregnancy and surgery. Practices are guided by how your body is responding, not by timelines or intensity, and support whole-body strength, coordination, and nervous system regulation at your own pace.

You are encouraged to listen to your body and follow guidance from your healthcare provider regarding return to activity. Modifications and adaptations are always available and just being in the community will support your healing.
  • What if I’m experiencing pelvic pain or discomfort postpartum?
Yes — this class can be supportive, with important considerations.

You’re welcome here. Strong After Birth is designed to be adaptable for postpartum discomfort, including pelvic pain, scar sensitivity, or general soreness. Movement is guided by function, alignment, and nervous system regulation—not pushing through pain—and participants are supported in working within their body’s current capacity. This class does not replace individual medical or physiotherapy care, but it can complement it by supporting coordination, confidence, and body awareness.
That said, this class is not a replacement for medical care or pelvic health physiotherapy. If pain is severe, worsening, or limiting daily function, we recommend working alongside an appropriate healthcare provider.
  • What stage postpartum do I need to be?
    Yes.

You’ll learn which positions support baby moving through the different levels of the pelvis and, more importantly, you’ll practice finding them in your own body. This helps your body recognize and access supportive positions instinctively during labour, rather than trying to remember instructions.

The class also addresses how modern daily habits can limit access to these positions — and how to restore that range so your body has more options when labour unfolds.
  • Is this class educational or more movement-based?
Both. Movement is used as the primary tool to rebuild strength, coordination, and confidence in the postpartum body. You will learn more about YOUR body and what it needs and the exercises that can best support you. Education is woven into the movement so learning happens through experience. Each class also includes a dedicated education and discussion block, which will occasionally host guest experts on relevant postpartum topics.
Full guest schedule to be announced.
  • What if I miss a class?
Because this is an ongoing series, each class explores different aspects of postpartum movement and education. If you miss a week, you’re welcome to ask for a brief review of key concepts at the next class, and in some cases a handout may be available.

Each class continues to support strength, mobility, regulation, and confidence, so you can rejoin without feeling behind. A WhatsApp community is also available to help you stay connected between classes and up to date on the content for each class.
  • What should I wear and bring to class?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move, breathe, and feed your baby easily. Layers are helpful so you can adjust throughout class. The space has been on the cooler side this winter.

Classes are held in a martial arts space with a padded floor. A yoga mat is optional, though many participants like to bring one for added grip and comfort.

    Please bring:

    A water bottle

    A yoga mat (optional)

Any personal props you enjoy using (bolster, block, blanket, pillow)

Anything you need for your baby (feeding, changing, soothing)

All essential movement props will be provided.
You may also enjoy bringing a journal or notebook to reflect or jot down insights after class.
